Hello and welcome to San Carlos UMC!
My name is Cody Clark and I am the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries. I will begin my fourth year at SCUMC later this summer.
What we try to provide here at SCUMC is something unique, exciting, and fulfilling. The youth leadership team brings their various gifts and talents to our group to share in a very active environment.
A little about me…
I grew up in Jamul, California (east county San Diego). I attended Valhalla HS where I was on the soccer team. I became active in the youth program at Foothills UMC during my junior year in high school. Before that, my faith was something I had but didn’t use or share very much. I quickly learned the value of a young and exciting faith community. I participated in service projects, attended worship regularly, became part of the youth leadership team, and was always participating in fun church events.
After high school I went to Chico State and studied History. I joined a Fraternity, Sigma Chi, and was able to include the foundations of that organization to type of person I wanted to be in my faith and community. Whenever I returned to San Diego my time was spent helping as a youth volunteer at Foothills UMC. I wanted to give back to the community that had given so much to me.
After Chico State I attended San Diego State and received my Teaching Credential in Social Studies. Many of the teaching techniques and skills I learned through that program are integrated into how our youth programs are created and run.
While at SDSU I had the opportunity to go on a mission trip to Vladivostok, Russia. While there I worked in an orphanage. The experience of bringing smiles and hope to children really changed my life. I felt God call me to something more. My final week of student teaching was also my first week of Seminary at Claremont School of Theology. I graduated from there in 2007 with a MA in Religious Education.
My faith, education, and experiences are all very important to who I am today. I believe that these should also be important to the young people in our community. I also believe in challenging youth to go beyond their boundaries, to be active in the life of their school, play sports or music, be artistic, and just be active! Our program is more than sitting around and discussing God, we want to participate in the world with God!
What I like to do…
